OPEN: DataDrive2030 is looking for a Training Lead

We are looking for an organised, highly motivated and engaging Training Lead who has a passion for working with organisations and individuals towards the common goal of closing the opportunity gaps in early childhood.​ This is a full-time position based in Cape Town or Johannesburg​. The starting date is flexible, but we’d love to get you on board as soon as possible.

About the role

We currently have over 300 individuals across the country who are trained and accredited to administer our preschool assessment tools. With growing demand for training trainers and assessors to administer the tools, we have created a new position within our “workforce warriors” team for a  Training Lead. This person will help develop and deliver our training strategy, and support a highly skilled workforce of ELOM trainers and assessors across the country and covering all official SA languages.

We are looking for an experienced trainer with excellent people skills, facilitation abilities, technical expertise and some exposure to the early learning or education sector. The candidate should be a strategic thinker, with demonstrated ability to engage well with external stakeholders and ideally have an interest in, and aptitude for, people development.

The ideal candidate is a problem solver who can take initiative and manage both routine and out-of-the-ordinary tasks with accuracy and interest. They should have excellent communication skills and experience in managing multiple projects at once.

Candidate requirements

  • Diverse training and development experience, in a managerial or lead role
  • Experience working in the ECD sector (direct experience using the ELOM tools would be a distinct advantage)
  • An excellent communicator who can and enjoys engaging comfortably and respectfully with diverse stakeholders
  • A flare for troubleshooting and creative problem-solving
  • Able to adapt to changing parameters
  • Someone curious about and comfortable with technology
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • A team player who is reliable, punctual and open to giving and receiving feedback
  • Must be fluent in English and at least one other official South African language. Multilingualism is a distinct advantage for this position.
  • Advantageous - experience working in training and development
  • Advantageous - familiarity with Google Suite, Asana, Airtable or similar database and project management software
  • A driver's licence and own car are essential

Key responsibilities

Develop and deliver on a training strategy for all projects 

  • Working with the Deputy Director, develop and implement the strategy for training of all assessors and trainers across the tools.
  • Develop and update training materials across the tools.
  • Support strategic decision-making on the best approach to training implementation and maintaining skills, with an eye for provincial and forward thinking needs.
  • Manage high level supply and demand of training in alignment with DD2030’s growth strategy.

Training implementation

  • Lead and review end to end training processes, from screening to orientation, and oversee the quality of training and assessments. 
  • Build a train-the-trainer model and enhance training processes for both Senior Trainers (ST) and Assistant Trainers (AT).
  • Manage capacity in the workforce team to service the needs of clients/users.
  • Enhance and manage systems to ensure consistency across training. 
  • Manage partnerships with Trainers and Training Partners, including sourcing leads and managing the training development plan.
  • Execute training for both assessors and train-the-trainer in conjunction with Training Partners and the training team. 

Maintaining skills and quality of trainers and assessors

  • Support strategic decision making on the best approach for training, implementation and for maintaining the skills of trainers and assessors.
  • Develop a strategy and criteria for the recruitment and accreditation of  assessors and trainers (ST and AT).
  • Develop and manage systems to measure the skills of trainers and assessors over time, based on set standards.
  • Develop and implement standards for maintaining accreditation of  assessors and trainers (ST and AT), and communicate these to the community.
  • Consider training foundations and develop refresher courses as custom content.
  • Work towards enhancing and reviewing the assessor dashboard.
  • Manage the process of accreditation and review of trainers and assessors. 

Managing trainer and assessor communities

  • Develop strategies for engagement with communities of both assessors and trainers, and oversee the management of the communities.
  • Working with the coordinator, manage the database and ensure that information is up to date for both assessors and trainers. 

Broader engagement and ad hoc additional tasks

  • Participate in weekly DD2030 team meetings and twice-yearly strategy sessions and assist as appropriate with ad hoc tasks arising from these discussions.
  • Provide relevant input to the DD2030 communication team to highlight stories relating to DD2030’s work.
  • Ensure work is carried out per the DD2030 Ways of Working and internal processes.
  • Support the team in the overall delivery of the DD2030 strategy.
  • Represent DD2030 at relevant ECD forums and events.
