The content was adapted to a 14-week cycle for parents that includes eight workshops and eight home visits (for those opting into home visits). The frequency of workshops/home visits is greater at the start of the programme and interaction spreads out to weekly (alternating between workshops and home visits) from week five. Home visits support Every Word Counts content and include Story Sharing using books given at the training, storytelling techniques and Nal’ibali radio, television and online resources.
The study uses the ELOM Home Learning Environment (HLE) tool to monitor and evaluate the programme, interviewing caregivers in isiXhosa at baseline and endline during the first and last scheduled visits.
